Celebrating Volunteer Week
April 15th to 21st
We at the Williamsburg Community Association (WCA) say a big THANK YOU to our volunteers during this week that assist us with programs, special events, city initiatives #lovemyhood or being part of our board of directors. This year’s National Theme is Celebrate the Value of Volunteering – building confidence, competence, connections and community.
Volunteering is often seen as a selfless act; a person gives their time, skills, experience, and passion to help others, without expecting anything in return. And while volunteering is a form of service, many volunteers will tell you that “you get more than you give”. From opportunities to develop new skills, to finding deep and meaningful personal connections, the magic of volunteering is that it creates social and economic value for all.
Without the engagement of community coming together to make Williamsburg a neighbourhood where everyone is welcome and involved we would not exist.
Just over 10 years ago a small group of volunteers came together with guidance from the City of Kitchener Staff and our local Councilor Kelly Galloway-Sealock to create a truly unique community organization. During this time the WCA and its team of volunteers have been providing quality programs and events for the residents of Williamsburg. Over this time our volunteers have been recognized both locally and provincially.
Most recently our Past President Tara Parachuk and Frank Prospero, Past Treasurer/Founder received their Volunteer Service Award from the province of Ontario for 5 years and 10 years respectfully. Tara Parachuk has also received Leading Women/Leading Girls Building Community Recognition Program from the province of Ontario. Congratulations to these outstanding volunteers of the WCA and thank you for giving back to the community.
